Yeh Galliyan Aur Hain

Yeh galliyan aur hain,

Yaan yaas ka guzar nahin.

Aah ka paas nahin,

Ashkon ko uzar nahin.

Yaas ummeed kee humjoli,

Kiran ka partao,

Aahon kee boli.

Aur ummeed…

Jaise musafir kee jholi,

Phailata hai isey,

Manzil ka khwahan.

Mohabbaton ke qafile,

Jazbaat kee toli.

Har aik musafir…

Aur har aik kee jholi.

Magar tu…

Tu ke manzil ke napaid wujood ka,

Khud munh bolta suboot hai,

Terey paas jholi hai, na rasta hai,

Na rakht-e-safar na sung-e-meel hai,

Aur na hee koi shajr-e-sayadaar hai.

Terey paas wohi teri manoos galliyan,

Aur tujh ko yeh ma’loom bhi hai,

Ke yeh galliyan aur hain,

Yaan ummeed na sahi,

Magar yaas ka guzar bhi nahin.

Baji: LOL! It was actually ‘galliyan’ – streets, not punjabi’s ‘gallan’. But ‘gallan’ is still better than ‘gaaliyan’ – which is what Owlie (also) read it as…

I am thinking its a good thing there is no google trabslator button – you guys keep finding new depth in this kalaam. :)

Baji, an English post coming soon to a blog near you if I can help it.

Fear not, I know better than to try my hand at poetry in any language easily understood by the chance reader of this blog. I’d be found out if I did.

Right now, I call the roman english rant poetry, and everyone thinks I am oh-so-cool.. or so I hope :)

Couldn’t resist typing it all down in the script it deserves, because you, Bhaijan, indeed are oh-so-cool.

(Though I did LOLed at “yeh gaaliyan aur hein“… :D )

Chotey bhai: Thank you so very much. This is easily one of the most flattering compliments I have ever got, and certainly one of the best comments…

I went and dug out the tutorial you had sent me a couple of years ago, so that I can put your hard work to good use – its the least I ought to do after such kindness and affection you send my way.

    Jazak Allah khair!

How is the recovery coming along?

Waah knicq bhai, loved thsi stanza the most:

    Na rakht-e-safar na sung-e-meel hai,
Aur na hee koi shajr-e-sayadaar hai.
Terey paas wohi teri manoos galliyan,

Oh and I read it first as Yeh gaaaliyaan aur hain ;)

Asma: Hausla afzai ke liye shukriya… :)

Apparently, everyone is reading it as everything but galliyan… can only mean two things… either, I ought to have written about the diversity of obscenities hurled at me… or perhaps, i should take Saadat’s advice and figure out just how to go about putting a post up in urdu rather than roman urdu.

A: Aziza, It will take more than a line and half to make a dent into the vast mounds of waste-able time on our collective hands, so I say get writing!

As for Shaeri aur is ka samajh main aana… mujhe to aaj tak kabhi bhi shaeri samajh nahin ayee… :P

Adnan: Makes two of us bro. It appears awaam is willing to read it as anything but streets. :)
