Waisay bhi aap ki maadri zaban toh photohari punjabi hai, uss main bhi koi qat’a irshaad kijiye. Waisey kia jagah hai photohar… I spent most of my formative years there (sorry, I think my Urdu has been exhausted…or at least, given the hour, I have!), and so I’m a closet photohari myself. Over half our armed forces come from there as do many of the nishan-e-haiders and most of the winners of the various other gallantry awards, but despite that, in only one photohari COAS in over 60 years, who was in charge for just a year before he met his untimely end…. proving that whilst they make brave soldiers, they are not really into political machinations etc, Gen Majeed Malik notwithstanding.
Anyway, I digress.
So as I was saying, one would find some of the most wonderful people in photohar. And on top of that, its the one region of Pakistan with almost a permanent and complete Muslim League majority eg in ’90 and ’93, let alone ’97 – I guess the fact that most of the people here know someone or are related to someone who is meant to be defending the country means they wouldn’t wanna waste their vote on some leftist or anti-Pakistani party. Sure, they have their castes and their Rajas and their Maliks and their perpetual feuds which put the Montagues and the Capulets to shame.
But despite that, even the illiterate 70 year grandmas knew what their politics were, with statements like…. “asan tai Muslim League nu hi vote paa saan”… since that’s what ‘asan’ had always done, and well that was the only logical thing to do, even though her knowledge of politics, current affairs, elections or history probably did not extend beyond this one sentence and sentiment!

Orchid: LOL! Roman Urdu is indeed time consuming, that is until you have been brought face to face with romanized Arabic (complete with numerals to distinguish the “mahram wali hae” from “mohra wali hae”, and all the other similar sounding alphabets from each other) or the roman malayalam with its never ending words… roman languages are no child play.
